Recruitment
If you have the right talent and attitude, you could have a fantastic career with Whittaker Engineering.
Our Company, Our Culture, Our Story
Established in 1983, Whittaker offers quality manufacturing, turnkey design, and engineering solutions for the global oil and gas industry.
The Story of Whittaker so far
The Whittaker Group has been in business since 1983, steadily developing our service in response to the demands of the North Sea oil and gas industry, on and offshore, above and below the surface. Now we are applying our skills and capabilities to the marine industry, renewables, decommissioning, R&D, and other key fields.
Based in Stonehaven, just south of Aberdeen, Whittaker Engineering has grown with the local industry over three decades. We began with a handful of staff, investing in new equipment, adding specialisms and recruiting people to meet growing demand.
About Us & Our Culture
Whittaker is a tight-knit team of professionals, with around 140 people in Scotland and 60 in Mexico. We are engineers, fabricators, welders, machinists, and fitters. As a fully integrated business, wholly owned by hands-on directors, we can respond quickly and effectively to the most complex and challenging of briefs.
Our team includes highly qualified design engineers and a full cohort of highly skilled fabricators, welders, machinists and mechanical fitters. We are very proud to continue Scotland’s tradition of precision engineering and manufacturing in an economy where making things is less prevalent than it was - we're keeping valuable skills alive and at home in the UK.

Whittaker Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme
We participate in the Modern Apprenticeship scheme to help invest in the next generation of skilled workers.
We are now looking to recruit trades apprentices to start in August 2026.
At any one time we have around a dozen apprentices - we take on five or six a year for a four-year Modern apprenticeship.
Our apprentices undergo a comprehensive four-year training programme, working and earning while attending college on day release.
- Fabrication, welding and pipefitting: working on a wide range of plate and pipework fabrication projects. A keen interest in craft, design and practical activities would be advantageous.
- Machining: working on a range of manual turning machines, manual milling machines and the latest computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines. A good level of numeracy and mechanical aptitude is required.
- Mechanical fitting: dismantling and rebuilding a variety of mechanical and hydraulic equipment such as heat exchangers, pumps, turret gripper assemblies, and sundry components. Manual skills and mechanical aptitude are required.
Minimum of three National 5 grades in Mathematics, English and a relevant technical subject.
Some of our apprentices have had years-long careers at Whittaker after completing their apprenticeships, utilising the skills gained to move positions internally (e.g. from Mechanical Fitter to Project Engineer). Several of our staff have also progressed into supervisory and managerial roles after completion of their apprenticeship (e.g. Chargehand Mechanical Fitter offshore or Project Manager).
Opportunities to travel/work offshore may be available to apprentices showing the required attributes.
